Enhancing Efficiency at Barclay Towers with Wilo
A Modern Solution for an Aging System
Built in 1981, Barclay Towers is a prominent high-rise condominium located in Denver’s historic LoDo (Lower Downtown) district. Originally designed as an office tower, the building underwent a major renovation in the early 2000s, transforming into 224 luxury condominiums, complete with ground-floor retail space and a rooftop pool. Residences range from cozy one-bedroom units to expansive three-bedroom homes, catering to a diverse range of lifestyles.
Despite its luxury appeal, Barclay Towers faced a growing challenge: its aging domestic water pressure booster system. Installed in the early 1990s, the constant end suction pressure booster system had become inefficient, costly to run, and unreliable due to changes in city water pressure and building occupancy. Running at a constant 10-horsepower and 60 Hz, the outdated system was draining energy and struggling to meet demand. One pump had already failed completely, and the system relied on pressure relief valves for regulation—an inefficient and unsustainable solution.
The building’s owners sought a new system that would provide reliable water pressure while improving energy efficiency and reducing operational costs.
The Wilo Solution: Efficiency Meets Performance
To address these concerns, Polarized Water Solutions installed a Wilo-CO-2 Helix duplex pressure boosting system, selected from Wilo’s quick shipment program for its superior efficiency and reliability. The Wilo-Helix V, a high-pressure vertical multi-stage centrifugal pump, was chosen for its smooth operation, long service life, and serviceability.
Greg Rogers, CEO of Polarized Water Solutions, emphasized the advantages of this system: “Wilo products are superior. The Helix was the best choice for this application, offering the most efficient performance curve, smooth operation, and unmatched longevity.”

Key Benefits of the Wilo-CO-2 Helix System
Optimized Energy Efficiency: The new system operates with a 7.5-horsepower motor, reducing energy consumption compared to the previous 10-horsepower unit.
Multi-Stage Design: Unlike the old single-stage pump, the Wilo-Helix V uses smaller diameter impellers stacked in stages to maximize pressure output while minimizing energy use.
Compact & Easy Installation: The Wilo-CO-2 Helix’s space-saving design allowed for a seamless replacement within the existing mechanical room.
Fast Delivery & Installation: The system was delivered quickly, preventing a potential catastrophic failure of the old system.
Reduced Noise & Improved Comfort: Residents noticed a significant reduction in noise levels, thanks to the variable speed operation that prevents the system from constantly running at 60 Hz.
With an estimated return on investment (ROI) of less than three years, the new pressure booster system not only enhances reliability but also significantly cuts energy costs.
